What equipment best matches my company’s needs?

Question: What equipment best matches my company’s needs?

Answer: Vertical balers are rated by the W I D T H of the bale they produce. The most common vertical baler by far is the 60” baler which produces a 60”X30”X48” bale. The 60” baler is by far the most common vertical baler because that is the size bales recyclers want. A 48” baler produces a 48”X30”X48” bale. A 36” baler produce a 36”X30”X36” bale. Besides these there are 54” balers, 42” balers, 24” balers, 20” balers and even 18” balers. Two factors are necessary to consider when choosing a baler. The size of the material you are baling and the amount of material you are baling.

If you are baling cardboard that is more than the baling chamber size, considerable amount of time will be spent breaking to cardboard down to fit into the baler. For instance, if your box size ranges up to 50” X 28”, you don’t want a 48” baler that only accepts up to 48” X 30” boxes. Too much time will be spent getting the box into the baler.

The second thing to consider is the amount of material to be baled. A general rule of thumb is that if you are baling 1,000 lbs or more of material per day, a 60” baler is the baler for you. If more than a ton a day, you would then change to a horizontal baler from a vertical. Some prefer two vertical balers because each might be used for different materials, i.e. cardboard and shrink wrap.
